Huntington State Park

A warm water reservoir surrounded by cinnamon-colored buttes. It is a quiet desert oasis that offers water sports, boating, and fishing. The park is also a great place to spot migratory birds or head out on a hiking, biking or off-roading adventure.

Completed in 1966, this popular summer destination offers 237 acres of boating, swimming and fishing fun, nestled amongst the sandstone cliffs and chiseled peaks in the background. Bird watchers may see meadowlarks, eagles, and hawks among other species that migrate through the region. Mountain lion, beaver, bear and many mountain dwelling animals also call the forests around the reservoir home. Popular with locals, the reservoir is ideal for waterskiing and crawdad fishing.

The name of both the town and reservoir honors the three Huntington brothers, Oliver, William, and Dimick, who first explored this area in 1855. Dimick was an interpreter for the local Indians; William was famed as a scout and explorer; and Oliver was an official recorder for the unsuccessful Elk Mountain Mission to Moab. The town of Huntington was founded in 1877.
